Alaska SPCA was founded in June 1966. Mission was and still is to stop the 'cruelty of breeding the unwanted' and to 'instill pet ownership responsibility'. Alaska SPCA is privately funded and has never had any government monies or grants. We are an Alaskan non-profit dedicated to serving the Alaskan problems of animal cruelty.
We started a Thrift Shop and low cost Spay Clinic in 1978. In 1981, we bought a small lot in Anchorage and established a small Rescue Shelter. In the 70s, we had property donated and the early 80s, we opened a Pet Cemetary. In 1999, we purchased a Mobile Spay Clinic. To date, over 5,000 surgeries have been done in the Mobile Unit and over 80,000 have been done a our Anchorage Clinic. All this was done with private donations and BEQUESTS plus much hard work and dedicated management to pursuer goals of stopping cruelty in the large state of Alaska where there are more dogs per capita than any other state.
